dead people everywhere - this time cops

Published: Fri, 07/08/16

Wow, what a night. Our country has gone mad.

Or has it?

Turns out, an angry black man with a lot of firepower shot 12 cops and a couple civilians. Five cops died by sniper fire.

The cops blew him up with a bomb robot. So we may never know more than that he was a cold-blooded killer.

But it's ONE GUY. The world has NOT gone mad. Our country is still filled with mostly sane people.

It's the insane people we have to worry about.

And no, I am not a psychologist, so I'm being really loose with the word "insane."

But I bet you get my meaning. I'm talking crazy, sociopathic people that if you really knew them, you wouldn't want your children dating them.

You know?

How does this tie in with marketing? It doesn't.

But it does have to do with forwarding a narrative. That there are only "two sides" to every story, when in fact there are many sides to every issue.

We're not dealing in life with two-dimensional geometric objects. We're dealing with amorphous solids that bend and move and flex as their external environment changes.

As Facebook would say, "It's complicated."

Sure, racism is in the mix. As is gun violence. And hate. And bigotry. And selfishness. And a whole lot of other things.

When people talk about "race," they think White, Black, Hispanic, Italian.

But we're all one race: The Human Race.

And we're all One.Earth.

The sad events that have unfolded right before our eyes the past few days are just more of the same. The whole thing sickens me. People blaming entire races or religions for the bad things.

Look, we're all in this together. We can kill each other until there's one left standing (WWE Royal Rumble, anyone?) or we can put our small differences aside, come together, shake hands, and be better at this human thing.

If we can't do the latter, we're no different from the animals we put in zoos.

Let's hope I can talk about marketing, or technology, or business in the next email.

Until next time,
