April Fool's Day is over and only Google lost. Well, maybe you, too.

Oh, and Trader Joe's supposedly closed. But there weren't any meaningful casualties from April Fool's Day pranks.

I hate April Fool's Day. It's easy to forget that somebody will try to fool you.

And with all the stuff we've got flooding through our brains, we're often susceptible to shenanigans.

I'm here to make you April SMART and avoid being a FOOL.

And no, this is not about SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Time-bound), though that's a good method to follow.

No. This is about actually being smart.

Part of being smart is enhancing your skills, building on your innate talents, shoring up weaknesses, etc.

But none of that matters if you're not doing anything.

First, do something. Set a goal. Decide you want to be better at something.

Then acquire the skills.

Two skills that immediately come to mind in this business we work in (online marketing) is writing and creating multiple streams of income.

Last one first:

I'm not a big homerun hitter. While I grew up imagining I'd beat Babe Ruth's homerun record, my actual skills on the diamond was in getting on base.

I'm left-handed. Most Little League pitchers suck at throwing against lefties. Often, I found myself getting hit by a pitch or walked on 4 straight balls.

I rarely got a pitch to hit.

If I did, it was because I just wanted to swing and would throw the bat at any pitch not behind me.

So I was a singles guy. Or I walked. Then I'd steal two bases and hope the guy batting behind me could hit the ball to the outfield.

My idols growing up were Reggie Jackson (lots of homeruns and strikeouts) and Rickey Henderson (arguably the best player ever, who stole over a thousand bases and scored over 2000 runs -- both all-time records).

I'm a singles guy in business, too. Many of my peers won't admit that. They want the big launch, the big book deal, the massive compliments for hitting the "grand salami."

My friend, Gene Pimentel, is a homerun hitter with a singles hitter mentality.

He's low-key. Mild mannered. Very pragmatic. Gene is an authority on domaining.

What is domaining? It's like house flipping, only the thing you flip is the domain, not a house.

It's a LOT cheaper (one, two, or ten dollars versus tens of thousands of dollars).

And it's faster and easier. Gene "domains" full-time. Has been for years.

His ROI on his domain flips is other-worldly (he once sold a domain for $24k that he bought for a teeny tiny fraction of that).

I've taken a few of his classes. They're brilliant.

Gene put together 3 of his best courses. They're on sale right now for the price of an extra-large pizza.

You could make some serious dough off what Gene teaches.

The *other* skill I mentioned above is writing. More specifically, writing "copy."

Copy that sells. Words on the page that compel people to buy. It's a skill that you can become proficient at. You have to practice.

Write every day.

Hone your skill. Learn from the best. Apply their principles.

One of the best "unknown" copywriters is Ray Edwards.

You may not know him but I bet you know his clients (Tony Robbins, Jack Canfield, Jeff Walker, and Frank Kern, to name just a few).

He's got a course called "Copywriting Academy" that he's soft-launching today.

What's a soft launch? It's the Jeff Walker "product launch formula" (one of Ray's clients) where Ray gives you a ton of free content before he tries to sell you anything.

There's gold in that information he gives away for free. I've subscribed.

The first video is up. You can find it here:

And no, I haven't taken the course. But I'm following the training he's giving right now. I know a few of my readers are, too.

They're the action takers. They may hit singles, doubles, or homeruns (nobody hits triples any more).

But they go up to the plate with one goal: To get on base.

If you don't get on base, you can't score. And if you don't score, you can't win.

Check out these two awesome resources. I assure you can't go wrong with either.

And you'll be better equipped to run a successful online business.

After all, that's why you're here.
