Little used media strategy for getting publicity for your blog, product, or course

Hi,

Okay, it's used a lot in the more "mainstream" businesses, like brick and mortar, real estate, and marketing worlds...

But it's not used much in the internet marketing world. Yet. I know you've seen a lot of hype, hysteria, and hullabaloo about press releases, but they've all been about, how shall I say it?

The Bullshit Angle.

See, the Bullshit Angle is a tactic used to game a system. In the case of press releases, it's to trick Google into thinking that your widget or gizmo is more awesome than everybody else's.

And the trickery that is hoped for is that Google will rank your site, your content, your PRESS RELEASE at the top of its search engine results because EVERY NEWS source possible has "picked up" your PR and is waving the banner for your super-duper info product because it rocks.

Well, that's BS.

I mean, that DOES happen. But not to the scale that the snakeoil salesmen hawking press release software and distribution services would have you believe.

That's how the Bullshit Angle works best - when it's believable AND completely overblown.

Well...that's a long away around saying that you should give press releases a try, with these caveats.

  • Learn how to write them professionally. Big news sites will pick up your PRs if they're written in a certain way, using a certain format, with specific wording.
  • Make sure your press release is about something newsworthy. It could be a new product, a new executive-level officer hire, or an event.
  • Use a good distribution service. There are MANY. Some are good, a lot are not, and only a few are the cream of the crop (as in anything).
If you're serious about learning how to write, use, and distribute Press Releases, take a look at this course, given by one of the top instructors on Udemy:

I've recently begun writing press releases for clients and they work. But I also consulted with a pro in the industry (a 20-year veteran who ran a media and PR agency) and he's coached me along the way.

This course can help you get started. Then reach out to me and I'll share the pro's name with you so that you can get even more advanced training on the art and science of writing press releases.
