why sliders suck

Published: Fri, 09/02/16

You know those neat "slider-effect" websites you see, like this one?

http://www.ibm.com/us-en/

They certainly look neat, until you actually try to use one, as a visitor of the site.

They either slide by too fast, linger there too long...

And when you want to select one, it's invariably changed to the next "message."

Don't get me started on trying to use them on a small smart phone!

Thrive Themes just did a nice little write-up on why sliders suck.

My favorite quote from the analysis:

It gets ignored. It’s distracting. It’s confusing. It squeezes out relevant content. It slows down your site. It causes global warming.

Ha-ha.

So, what to do?

Abandon them! Pronto.

And then do this:

1. Big bold headlines with text designed to "get the click."
2. Side-by-side images that don't rotate.
3. Click, play type homepages.

Read this for more details.

Until next time,
