WOW, you guys really hate talk about CTR

Published: Fri, 08/05/16

Jeez, that was an eye opener. A couple days ago, I told you about the world's crappiest subject line ("please read").

Yesterday's proved even worse. I know this because the vast majority of you didn't read it.

All I can think is, Wow.

If you didn't read yesterday's email, you should. And I guess I need to be more creative in my subject lines.

Lesson learned.

Here's yesterday's email...please read (Ha-ha!)

I read an email today from Backlinko's Brian Dean.

He confirmed what I've been saying for years:

Onpage SEO matters. It leads to great clickthroughs on your listing in the search engines.

And that great CTR (clickthrough rate) leads to (guess what?):
CTR is one of the factors Google uses in its ranking algorithm. The more people click on your link in Google results, the better they rank you. Period.

Plus, the higher up the search rankings you are, the more traffic you get.

Duh.

But more importantly:

You actually get more traffic BECAUSE your call-to-action (in your meta description) is better than your competition.

Lesson?

There are 2 things in the Google search results that matter:
  1. Your web page title
  2. Your meta description
They are critical.

If you value search engine traffic, then be very careful with those two elements.
  1. Make great titles.
  2. Write great meta descriptions.
Until next time,

PS - I just ran across a nice alternative to the paid service, Snip.ly. It's called Back.ly. And it's pretty neat. Look for a post about it in the near future.

In a very brief experiment, I'm getting 40 percent clickthroughs. Not bad. But I'm using a specific set-up that you'll want to read about.
