The fatter they are, the larder they fall

If nothing else, I amuse myself.

Sorry if it doesn't translate...

The subject line is a play on a popular saying, "The bigger they are, the harder they fall."

I'll leave it to your imagination to determine what the heck I'm referring to.

Suffice it to say, sh#^ is hitting the fan every day. And as a casual observer, I'm intrigued.

And if I didn't laugh, I'd be crying. So I choose to laugh.

And learn.

Like macros and Excel. Excel is an awesome, under-utilized tool. It's part of Microsoft's "Office" suite.

Nearly everybody I know uses Word. But few use Excel. Even fewer use Access. And OneNote - OMG! It's my favorite tool now.

I even dropped Evernote. And you KNOW I loved that one.

Linux is another thing I've toyed with. I got interested in it about 17 years ago.

I worked at a biotech firm. We made drugs that cured real shit. We had mice and monkeys.

The brilliant scientists we employed strung together 30+ Linux servers to do...something. I don't know a whole helluva lot that server ring did, or what they did in the rooms that were "off limits" to even the IT guys (and IT staff usually have access to everything), but that was impressive.

Speaking of impressive...solar power.

Apparently, the theoretical limit for solar panel efficiency is 33.7 percent. It's complicated. But it's "free" energy. (Okay, after you pay for the panels and installation, and at some point dispose of it, not to mention the costs associated with producing the panels in the first place -- see? It IS complicated.)

You didn't believe me.

You may be wondering, where does Bill get all this info? I read.

You should, too. A good place to start is here --> https://freebooksearch.club/blog/

Now, I admit, some of my reading sources are online. And probably boring--if not terribly maddening--to 99.9 percent of the populace.

For example, I read The Hustle. It's a daily email I get that's jam-packed with deep analysis of several news stories. I love it. But it's often obscure stuff.

I also read 538's Significant Digits. Love it! Little snippets of interesting news stories.

So now you know a few of my secrets.

What do you read? How do you "build your brain?"

Try Audible - it's how I "read" most of my books nowadays
