Make your own job by following your passion and learning more than everybody else (IOW become an expert)

Bill James lived in Kansas City.

He worked security in a meat packing plant.

There was nothing much to do at work.

He loved baseball, especially baseball statistics. (I did at one time, too. I could tell you all the players, their BA's, slugging percentages, etc.)

He never was good at playing and didn’t look like an athlete. (I actually was a really good ball player, but bad knees and boredom killed my baseball fantasies.)

This was before the internet.

So Bill started publishing an old fashioned newsletter he mailed out.

He developed a following, and the Boston Red Sox hired him.

He discovered totally new information about baseball statistics.

He developed his genius on baseball studying during late nights at the meat-packing firm.

Then he became a Vice President for the Boston Red Sox.

His work remains splattered across the web and throughout books about baseball.

Make the most of your time and opportunities to learn.

Study hard.

Make it big.

Moral of the story: Find your passion and leverage it to become the authority on the topic. It's not as hard as it sounds.
