WordPress 5.0 drops tomorrow!
Published: Wed, 12/05/18
Tomorrow is a big day for us WordPress users.
WordPress 5.0 is being officially released tomorrow.
On the one hand, it's a really big release. The biggest change to the editor in a long, long time. And I love it! (It's called Gutenberg and I've been using it for months now.)
On the other hand, it's not really a big deal. Why?
Because, besides Gutenberg, you won't notice a lot of changes.
Heck, if you installed Gutenberg, the plugin, a while back, like I did, you won't notice much of a different at all.
However, be prepared for a shock if you haven't used Gutenberg before.
It's VERY different. Super COOL, but...different.
The good news is you don't need to use it if you don't want to. Simply install the Classic Editor plugin and WP will look just like it did before you upgraded.
I suggest you backup your install today. I use UpdraftPlus. It's a damned sweet backup plugin!
My favorite features are that it allows you to save your backups to individual folders in Dropbox and it makes migrating a site from one webhost to another SUPER EASY (just install WP on your new host, install UpdraftPlus to your new WP installation, point your backup folder to your Dropbox folder for that site, and press "migrate").
I did that 2x yesterday. Why? I've purchased a year of A2 Hosting Reseller. If you want a new, better, faster webhost, hit me up (reply). I'm sure I can get you a monthly price you can live with.
I'm slowly moving some of my sites over there. I consider it a test, or a Proof of Concept.
If my sites perform well, I may just migrate them all.
Anyway, get ready for WP5! Backup backup backup.
Did I say backup?
Cheers,
Bill

PS - Backup your WordPress site(s) before your host updates them for you :)
